To edit/move the existing buttons click and hold using your mouse, and drag them to where you want to. To add new buttons drag them from the Toolbar Elements to the main toolbar, fullscreen controller, advanced widget or time toolbar. Choose the tab for which you want to change the controls. Use your mouse and simply drag the buttons in the toolbar editor. You can switch between profiles to switch to different interfaces easily. This one allows you to save your interface configurations as profiles. Not that there is a Select profile option above everything else. You can have a different set of controls in full screen. Fullscreen Controller: These are the controls that show up when your video is playing in full-screen mode. These are the buttons that aren’t frequently used. You can place buttons that can record, cut, loop or navigate frame by frame. Advanced Widget: This is the advanced widget that is displayed when View > Advanced Controls is activated. Time Toolbar: This one allows you to customize the time toolbar that shows the position of the video or audio that you are currently playing. There are two lines of controls and line 2 has the most commonly used buttons. You can change the position of the player controls to place it above the video by checking the appropriate box. Main Toolbar: This is the toolbar that is displayed when VLC is running in Window mode. In the editor, you will see different tabs: In the menu bar or via the right click menu, select Tools > Customize Interface. What we want is a solution that restores WMP to its *normal* behaviour - i.e. The solution suggested gets rid of them completely, which is not really any good because it means to get access to them, you need to fiddle about exiting full screen, fast forward (or whatever) then back into full screen again. If you move the mouse, they are supposed to appear again. 
The WMP controls and graphics are *supposed* to appear top and bottom of the screen, and then gently scroll off screen if you don't move the mouse (and the mouse isn't over the controls). I have never played with those setting before and I shouldn't have to. OK, so by making the changes in Tools>Advanced, you can get rid of the WMP controls. Gallherjazz, I know you mean well and its your thread, so I guess you can do what you like, but this is *not* solved!
